• Ipheion, 100 pc. SOLD OUT!

Ipheion per 100. Seeing those simple, star-shaped flowers, it's hard to imagine that it took science some 160 years to determine the species to which these Argentina-originated bulbs belong. Since they were described in 1830, they have been shifted from one family to another, then downgraded to a subspecies and finally assigned the 'rank' of species. And all this for a plant that only grows to 20 cm high. Despite all the scientific effort, they still need to be planted in the following period; September to the end of December. They will then flower from late April to early June. Such a low-growing crop is of course very suitable for pots on the balcony and terrace, or for rock gardens and pond edges, but they also do well in the lawn or under conifers and shrubs. A nice side effect is that they are not only beautiful, but also useful. The slightly soap-smelling flowers scare away annoying creatures such as the dreaded rose nematode or common ants. During the flowering period, the Ipheion continuously produces new, fresh flowers. So every day it looks like they just started blooming.
